Congratulations on your new fur-baby!

Bringing a new puppy or kitten to your family is such an exciting event with many fulfilling years of special companionship ahead of you…But as you know, puppies and kittens come with a ton of responsibility and it can be hard for pet parents to know and keep track of what to do.

First things first, establish care

Bring your puppy or kitten to your vet for a full nose-to-tail exam and to get them familiar with a veterinary hospital from a young age. This first exam is one of the most important visits in your pet’s life to start them off on a path to a healthy, happy life.

Vaccinations are certainly a top priority for your puppy or kitten’s health, but there’s a lot to cover in that first visit with your vet besides just that. It’s a time to bring up breed-specific information, nutrition, behavioral training, socialization, and answering any questions you may have about your new pet.

Fun tip: remember to snap a pic of your pet’s very first vet appointment. We’ve seen people get pretty creative over the years.

Understand why…

It’s important to be active in your pet’s health. One of the main keys to keeping your pet healthy is vaccinating them against potential diseases. There are lots of diseases that affect our pets and animals, so proper vaccination is vital in protecting them from the many types of illnesses they are susceptible to.

It’s also important to consult with your vet about the unique risks of living in your specific region, such as the rattlesnake vaccine, increased risks of foxtails and preventative heartworm medication.
